Gilpin County Sheriff’s Report, April 2021

On 4/1/21, Gilpin County deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol with a short vehicle pursuit in which the suspect vehicle attempted to ram a State Trooper. One suspect was arrested on several charges.

On 4/2/21, a Gilpin County deputy returned a call from a citizen who wanted to report a false claim made against them with Gilpin County Social Services.  A report was taken.

On 4/3/21, a Gilpin deputy took a report of a reported harassment.  After further investigation, it was determined no crime had occurred.   

On 4/3/21, Gilpin County deputies were dispatched to an address in unincorporated Gilpin County, on a cold assault.  Upon arrival, the suspect had left the victim who did not wish to pursue charges.  A report taken.

On 4/4/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the Grand Z Casino parking garage for a report of theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a wallet along with other items. No suspect information was available and a report was completed.  

On 4/4/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to the Grand Z Casino for a report of a disturbance.  A patron had threatened a staff member. Due to Gilpin County Sheriff's Office policy restricting making arrests the suspect was not arrested and was instead issued a summons to appear in court on the charge of harassment.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/4/21, Gilpin County deputies were advised by dispatch of an in-progress disturbance located at 2 Rudolph Ranch Road.  A party was arrested and charged. Later the party was booked into Gilpin County Jail.  A report was completed.

On 4/5/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to an assault in progress in Central City. A male party was arrested on domestic violence related charges and a report was later completed.

On 4/5/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to an address off Highway 119 on the report of a disturbance. A report was taken to document the incident.

On 4/6/21, a Gilpin County deputy was advised of a possible kidnaping / abduction.  Through further investigation it was learned that the person in question was contacted and a welfare check completed.

On 4/6/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the Century Casino. The casino reported that a patron staying the night had stolen items from a hotel room. The casino decided they didn’t want the Sheriff’s Office to pursue criminal charges. A report was completed.

On 4/8/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to mile marker 4 on Highway 119 on the report of a verbal disturbance. A report was taken.  

On 4/8/21, Central City Fire, Gilpin Ambulance, and a Gilpin Sheriff’s deputy were dispatched to mile marker 3 on the Central City Parkway on the report of an injury motor vehicle crash. A report was taken.  

On 4/9/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a report of a criminal trespass. After further investigation, it was determined to be a civil issue.   

On 4/9/21, a citizen who resides in the 2100 block of Bald Mountain Road reported her front license plate missing to Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office. A report was taken.

On 4/9/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a phone report about a possible identity theft.  The deputy was able to find out that the Black Hawk Police Department had already contacted the suspect in March and confiscated the stolen identification document. A case report was later completed.

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy found the stop sign at the intersection of Gregory Street and Spring Street in Central City had been knocked over. The deputy was unable to find a suspect and Central City Public Works was later notified. A case report was later completed.

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to the Grand Z Casino for a report of a suspicious person looking into cars in the parking garage. The suspicious person was contacted and was found to have two active warrants issued by the Gilpin County Court.  The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division staff refused to take custody of the suspect.  The suspect was released on scene and told he was banned for life from the Grand Z Casino per the Grand Z Casino staff.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the report of a cold burglary on Nevadaville Road. There is no suspect information.   

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to contact a party regarding harassment.  The harassment allegedly occurred in the Golden Gate State Park, 400 block Mountain Base Road. A report was taken.

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries located in the 700 block of the Central City Parkway. The driver was later arrested/released and cited for DUI and careless driving.  A report was completed.

On 4/10/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the 1400 block of Wedgwood Road on a 911 hang-up investigation. A report was taken.  

On 4/11/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to the Century Casino for a report of a verbal disturbance in progress.  It was determined that no crime had occurred.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/11/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a phone report of harassment.  The reporting party did not want to file charges against the suspect.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/12/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the 200 block of Jankowski Drive on the report of a vehicle trespass. Investigation disclosed that unknown suspects cut two tie-down straps in an attempt to steal a welder.  The suspects were unable to take the welder and fled the scene.  A report was taken.

On 4/12/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to a report of a suicidal juvenile male party in the 400 block of Mammoth View Lane. The juvenile male party was placed on an M1 hold and a report was later completed.

On 4/12/21, a Gilpin County deputy assisted Colorado State Patrol with a DUI investigation in the 4400 block of Highway 119.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/13/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Old Hughesville Road on a report of a party trespassing in the area. The party was located and an arrest was made on a warrant. The party was also issued a summons for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance schedule II < 4 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. A report was later completed.  

On 4/13/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to a residence in mid-county to conduct a welfare check on an adult party alleging physical abuse by their live-in caretaker. A safety assessment was made on scene and medical care was declined. No probable cause for criminal charges was developed. The party’s closest family member and the Department of Human Services were notified for follow-up.   

On 4/14/21, a person came to the lobby of the Gilpin County Jail for court ordered prints and was found to have an active warrant.

On 4/14/21, a party eluded a Gilpin County deputy from a traffic stop in Central City. A report was later completed. This case is active/pending identification of the suspect.

On 4/15/21, a Gilpin County deputy assisted the Colorado State Patrol with a motor vehicle accident on Highway 46.

On 4/15/21, Central City Fire along with a Gilpin deputy were dispatched to Bridge Street and Nevada Street on the report of a non-injury motor vehicle crash.  A report was taken.  

On 4/15/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 46.  Upon arrival it was apparent that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.  Colorado State Patrol responded and arrested the driver.  No further action taken.

On 4/16/21, a person currently at the Gilpin County Detention Facility was found to have an active warrant.

On 4/16/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to Nero Road for a welfare check and the party was found to be deceased. The death appeared natural.

On 4/16/21, Gilpin County deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol with an accident around mile marker 267 on Highway 119.

On 4/16/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to a report of a cold burglary. It was determined that a burglary had not occurred, but rather a trespass and criminal mischief. No suspect information was available.

On 4/17/21, a party arrived at the Gilpin County Sheriff`s Office lobby for bonding. A deputy found that the party’s driver license was canceled/denied. A proof of service was issued for a canceled/denied driver’s license.

On 4/17/21, a male party was arrested by Gilpin County deputies on a warrant for resisting arrest at the Century Casino.  

On 4/18/21, a deputy was dispatched to a disturbance located at 5313 Highway 119 (Coyote Motel).  A report was completed.

On 4/18/21, a Gilpin County deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Eureka Street and Main Street in Central City.  The suspect vehicle fled and the deputy was unable to identify the driver.  A case report was later completed.

On 4/19/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to Dory Hill Road on the report of a dog that had been attacked by two other dogs.   

On 4/20/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to milepost 1.5 on a report of a motor vehicle accident, non-injury with property damage. The driver was later contacted and issued a summons. An accident report was completed as well.

On 4/20/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to a call for property damage located at 410 Bobtail Hill Circle.  A report was completed.

On 4/20/21, a Gilpin County deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was later arrested for violation of a protection order and was booked into the Gilpin Jail.

On 4/21/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft at the Central City Post Office located at 149 Gregory Street. The deputy was further advised that it could be handled by phone.  A report was completed.

On 4/21/21, Gilpin deputies, Colorado State Patrol, Black Hawk Fire and Gilpin Ambulance responded to south Highway 119, on the report of a hit and run vehicle crash with injuries. The run vehicle was later contacted and the driver was arrested on several charges including DUI. The victim was transported to the hospital as a result of her injuries.  

On 4/22/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a report of a possible fraud. A report was later completed.

On 4/22/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to an address off Karlann Drive, on the report of a suicidal party. One male party was later transported to the hospital.

On 4/23/21, a Gilpin County deputy was conducting stationary traffic enforcement at mile marker 4.5 on Highway 119, when they observed a Gray pickup bearing a Colorado license plate traveling southbound towards the deputy’s location. The pickup crossed completely over the double yellow divider line into the northbound lane. A traffic stop was completed, and a report was done.

On 4/23/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to a report of a female party criminally trespassing a motor vehicle at the Grand Z Casino. The party was subsequently arrested.  

On 4/23/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to the Century Casino on a report of criminal mischief.  One party was arrested and summoned. A report was completed.  

On 4/23/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to a welfare check in Rollinsville. It was determined that the party being checked on was in severe mental and physical decline. An M-1 form was completed and the person was transported to the hospital for evaluation.  

On 4/24/21, a citizen reported that a person operating a front-end loader, which was doing work for a neighbor, almost hit their propane tank which occurred in the 100 block of Colorado Street, Rollinsville. A deputy responded and mediated between the two neighbors.  At 3:47 p.m.  another deputy responded back to the area in reference to a disturbance. One party was charged with harassment.

On 4/24/21, a Gilpin County deputy issued a proof of service to a female party. A report was taken.

On 4/25/21, a Gilpin County deputy was dispatched to 340 Spring Street on a report of a trespass. A summons and a report was completed.

On 4/26/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the 200 block of Eureka Street on the report of an open door.  Investigation disclosed the door latch was broken when the door was last closed. No evidence of criminal activity found.

On 4/26/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a report of a property damage only vehicle crash at the intersection of Hooper Street and Virginia Canyon Road. A case report was later completed.

On 4/27/21, a Gilpin County Sheriff's Office deputy queried a vehicle’s VIN number, which had not been reported stolen. At approximately 12:25 p.m., the deputy was advised that said vehicle had been reported stolen. Vehicle was recovered and the subject arrested.

On 4/28/21, a Gilpin County deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of Lawrence Street The driver was issued a summons for traffic violations and the passenger was arrested on a warrant. A report was later completed.

On 4/28/21, a Gilpin County deputy took a report of a stolen vehicle from the Gilpin County Library. There are no suspects or investigative leads at the time of the report.  

On 4/28/21, a Gilpin County deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of Lawrence Street. The driver was issued a summons for traffic violations and the passenger was arrested on a warrant. A report was later completed.

On 4/29/21, a Gilpin County deputy responded to the Grand Z Casino on the report of a possible drug violation. A party was given a warning regarding smoking cannabis on casino property.  

On 4/29/21, a Gilpin County deputy conducted a traffic stop near the 300 block of Lawrence Street. The driver was issued a criminal summons. The passenger of the vehicle was detained and released, and is currently being investigated for fraud related offenses.

On 4/29/21, Gilpin County deputies responded to a residence on the 200 block of Eureka Street on the report of a disturbance. Two parties were separated, and a report taken.  

On 4/30/21, Gilpin County deputies were dispatched to 245 Main Street in Black Hawk for a suicidal party.

On 4/30/21, an off-duty deputy assisted with a serious injury motor vehicle accident on Highway 6.  Colorado StatePatrol requested a supplement report be completed.
