Gilpin County candidates profiled: Gail Crawford

Candidates for Gilpin County positions in the upcoming elections in November will be profiled in The Mountain- Ear. A questionnaire was sent to each candidate.

Gail Crawford of Black Hawk is running for Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder as an Unaffiliated candidate. She has lived in Gilpin County for 22 years.

She said the Clerk’s office should be nonpartisan, where everyone receives the same treatment. The people control the Clerk, not the political parties. “I learned all this working in the Clerk’s office, being the Chief Deputy and performing the duties of the Clerk for eight years,” Crawford added.

Crawford has been married to her husband, Jim, for three years. She works 10 hours, four days a week as a slot technician. The job is keeping the slot machines on the casino floor running.

Crawford has many concerns about Gilpin County, including energy. Will our electricity be turned off? Will there be affordable fuel for our vehicles? “If you don’t like your neighbor, can you have them arrested for no reason?” If our water is contaminated, what are we going to do? Regarding food supply shortages, she asks, “if we can’t be nice to each other, how are we going to keep our community together?”

Her top three goals for the County in the next year will be to clean up the mess in the property records in the Clerk’s Office, so residents can buy or sell a house and refinance loans. She will work as a partner with the local title companies and metro title companies for record searches.

She said that she would end appointments for Motor Vehicle services. The last call to come in for plates and tags will be 4 p.m. on her watch. She will work with the State DMV on fees, so everyone has current tags and plates.

“We had fair elections when I was in office because I knew what I was doing. I got the job done without excuses. I was not able to run an election when I was a candidate.”

Crawford stresses that “we need to be nice to each other regardless of party. We need to make decisions that support everyone, not just one party. We need leadership that can decide for our County, not follow a party agenda.” She would love to have more residents involved in helping to run the elections when the Clerk is a candidate.

“Gilpin County residents deserve better,” she declares. “The residents deserve to have someone that knows the job and can get the job done. I can get the job done and be nice.

I like people!”

“I have met the time requirements when I worked in the Clerk’s Office,” she said.

“I care about the community.”
