NEDERLAND — You may notice some love and attention has been showered upon the Gillaspie House Museum at 363-449 North Bridge Street.
The 120 year old home to pioneer Boulder physician and former Nederland Mayor Dr. Carbon Gillaspie has been lovingly managed by the Nederland Historical Society since 1975. Year after year, dedicated volunteers not only run tours and catalog all the historic artifacts to be found inside, but they also maintain the building.
Most recently the building has been blessed with some attention to its outside facade, including a newly rebuilt deck and ramp for its entrances and some updated electrical infrastructure.
On Saturday, May 23, several volunteers gathered, including those from the Arapahoe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, who offered their time, money, and labor to plant over $400 worth of flowers, much of which were donated by our own Indian Peaks Ace Hardware.
All this is done out of respect and honor for Nederland’s storied past, as well as for its preservation, and in preparation for the upcoming museum season. The Gillaspie House will officially be open for tours starting the weekend of June 12, and will be open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the summer and fall.
After unfortunately being closed all last season, this year the NAHS plans to have more docents at the Gillaspie House for more tours, to coincide closely with the Nederland Mining Museum’s open hours.
