GHS Eagles Boys Win 45-38

William Mead, Gilpin County.  The Gilpin High School Eagles boys’ basketball team came away with an exciting 45-38 victory at home against Heritage Christian last Friday. The win brings Gilpin's record to 4-6 for the season.

 

Starters Austin Boutler, Tanner Davis, John Immordino, Will Lorenz and Alex Wilhelm led their team to a strong start, up by three at the end of the first quarter.

 

Friday's game was competitive throughout, with Gilpin rarely allowing their lead to slip. When the Eagles were down 34-35 in the fourth, they quickly bounced back and managed to stay on top. Will Lorenz shot four three-pointers, one giving Gilpin a crucial 39-35 lead with 3:12 left in the fourth quarter, helping to secure the win.

 

Seniors Austin Boutler and Tanner Davis recorded solid performances as well, with Boulter logging 10 points and Davis scoring 12. Coach Paul Hanson was confident that his team would pull through with the victory if his players could "shoot well and take care of the ball, and that they did.

Tanner Davis: 12 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists.

Chris Burtschi: 3 points, 4 rebounds, 0 assists.

The Eagles hosted the Alexander Dawson Mustangs on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, leading the

whole game and ending up with a spectacular 62-42 win against the long-time rivals.

Austin Boulter had 18 points and 9 rebounds, missing a double double by one grab off the

back board. Alex Wilhem scored 16 points.
