ALLENSPARK - Many of the artists on the Studio Tour use local found objects to create their art. George Epp, who shows his work at The Old Gallery in Allenspark, takes that love of local nature to a beautiful extreme.

He describes himself as “a woodturner.” He turns local wood, especially beetlekill pine, into works of art embellished with turquoise, shell, and other pretty things.

Epp explains: “Mountain pine beetles periodically erupt in Colorado's forests and kill millions of trees. In a small way I make use of this abundance of otherwise wasted wood to make works of art. I also have used local aspen and juniper.”
