NEDERLAND — On August 1 and 2, local artist, author, cartoonist, and librarian George Blevins will be honored at the Carousel of Happiness for George Blevins Days.
This is an honor much deserved. Blevins created editorial cartoons for The Mountain-Ear for almost two decades. He has authored books. He helped create the animals at the Carousel of Happiness. He has been working at the Gilpin County Library for several years. That has only been some of his life in Colorado.
He was born and raised in Louisiana, lived in Ecuador, and was a Freedom Rider fighting of Civil Rights. He was jailed in Jackson, Mississippi, and beaten in New Orleans, Louisiana, by white police officers for being part of the fight for equality in the United States.
Blevins will be at the Carousel of Happiness on August 1 and 2 greeting people and signing books.
