Gail Crawford running for Gilpin Clerk and Recorder

I am proud to announce my candidacy for Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder. I would like to introduce myself; I am Gail Crawford and I have petitioned onto the ballot for the office of Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder as an Unaffiliated candidate in the November election.

After some soul searching, multiple calls from members of the community, and talking to local leaders, I decided to enter the race. Gilpin County needs an option to the current Clerk. I feel that I can give Gilpin County a better option to the current Clerk.

I would like to talk about my qualifications for this office. I served for eight years as the Chief Deputy under the past Clerk. I have experience in all aspects of the office. So, on day one, I can fulfill the role of Clerk.

I have worked many of the elections as an election judge prior to being employed by the county. I worked with staff on training and running the election with the prior clerk. I participated in motor vehicle training when the state changed to the current system. I worked for title companies doing closing on property sales. Several of the people in our community will remember me handling their closing when they bought their house. This gave me extensive experience in the records section of the Clerk’s office.

I currently work at the Monarch Casino Resort Spa as a slot machine technician.

There are three major parts of the Clerk’s office: Motor Vehicles, which handles your vehicle title and tag needs; personal property recordings that most of us use to record our property transactions when we buy or sell a home or mining claim, along with other legal documents that need to be recorded; elections are also the job of the clerk.

Vote for me in November.

First, lets talk about motor vehicles. I will not make you stand outside in the cold to do your transaction. I will not make you have an appointment to get service. The office will be open, and you can come in. We will take precautions to make sure everyone is safe. I know many people want to come on their lunch break and we will not be closed during that time.

Now what I ask from you: if you have a complex transaction, please call to ensure we are prepared and that you have all the paperwork that is required.

This is an important announcement; the phone will be answered. Your time is valuable, your gas money is valuable, and we do not want to create a hardship simply to do a motor vehicle transaction.

Second is recordings. We value your time. We want to make sure your recording transaction and property search are done correctly and promptly. Most of the time when you use these services is when you buy or sell a home or mining claim. Accuracy and timeliness are important. All documents recorded need to be handled in a timely faction and with accuracy. Again, we need to be open, protect both the employees and you, and provide you the service you deserve.

Third is the election. I fully support election transparency, election security, and election integrity. We need to have full confidence in our elections. Without morals and standards where do we stand? The question I raise is, do we have transparency in our election in Gilpin County? Do we have election integrity in our county? And do we have election security in our county?

Questions have been raised on these issues. No clear answer has been provided. Currently our only answer is to blame. Expecting the post office not to create problems in the election is living in a fantasy world. I had mail watchers looking for the delivery of their ballot and letting me know when the ballot arrived at the box by USPS.

I will educate voters in how to recognize a problem, along with how to avoid a problem. Maybe getting drop boxes at more locations might help. Now with that said, please go to the state’s election website and sign up for notification for elections.

On a personal note, I am married to my husband of almost 3 years, Jim Crawford. We met while I was serving on the Colorado Sierra Fire Protection Board and he was serving on the High Country Fire Protection Board. We worked together to form the Timberline Protection District. I have lived in Dory Lakes for 22 years.

In closing, I wanted to let you know that I will tell you the truth. I intend to meet your expectations and I ask for your vote in November. I want to bring value to Gilpin County and help the clerk’s office move forward.
