GILPIN COUNTY — The Gilpin County Public Library held a community bake sale on Saturday, December 6, organized by the Friends of the Gilpin County Library.
The volunteer group has long supported the library by helping cover program costs and small expenses that fall outside the regular budget.
Tables were lined with affordable homemade treats, including gluten-free chocolate cupcakes, frosted cookies, fudge, brownies, fresh zucchini bread, and cranberry-orange loaves. Some of the zucchini for the bread even came from a garden grown by one of the contributors. (Insider's note: It was delicious.)
There were also hand-knit hats, scarves, and small potted plants for sale. Volunteers Terri Detrano and Dorothy Connors spent the day greeting visitors, wrapping baked goods, and answering questions.
Two weeks earlier, a similar sale brought in just over $300. Saturday’s event was held for one day only and offered another chance for the community to show its support and gobble some goodies.
