Celebrating Jesus’ birth: The proud parents. PHOTOS BY DAVE GIBSON[/caption]
Nearly half of Christ the King’s congregation turned out Saturday, December 10, to participate in their annual Living Nativity. Dressed in period clothing and backed by wise men bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh, Joseph (played by Jason Musil) and Mary (played by Kate Musil) gazed lovingly downward at the newborn baby Jesus. Church members took turns paying their respects and admiring him. With no room at the inn, a manger would suffice as his humble bed.
Later in life, Jesus would change the world like no one else in human history. Those in attendance sang Christmas hymns including “Hark the Herald Angel Sing,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and “Joy to the World.” Christmas spirit permeated the gathering. Snacks and apple cider were served inside.
Located at 971 Highway 46, Christ the King Community Church is nondenominational, hosting several affairs for area residents during the year. It has been described as a “blue jean church” where formal attire isn’t a requirement. Fellowship comes easily and everyone is welcome.
Services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. On Christmas Eve a special service will be held at 6 p.m. and another on Christmas Day at the usual time to further celebrate the birth of Jesus.
