Kelly Lucy, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at approximately 1:31 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a radio report regarding a 55-year-old female hiker from Longmont who was experiencing chest pain in the area of Diamond Lake. A Forest Service employee in the area hiked to his truck parked at the Fourth of July Trailhead to notify authorities.

Rescuers from the Nederland Fire Protection District arrived at the trail head and hiked into the field, followed by members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group. Rescuers met the patient in the area of the Arapahoe Pass Trail and the Diamond Lake Trail turnoff. After evaluating the party as she attempted to ambulate out on her own, rescuers decided to transport her the remaining distance in a litter. After reaching the trail head, the patient was transferred to the care of American Medical Response (AMR) and transported to Boulder. The rescue took approximately two hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, Nederland Fire Protection District, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and the U.S. Forest Service.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number is: #20-3447.
