On 2/10/19 Nederland Police were called to assist Boulder County Sheriff’s Office on a domestic violence call. During the 911 call the dispatcher heard someone say something to the effect of “hang up or I’ll kill you.” Upon arriving and rendezvousing with the Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy, they approached the house and observed no lights were on or any occupants evident. The BCS Deputy made contact with a male and female as they exited the home. The NPD officer spoke with the female party and took a report that the couple had been married for 20 years. Recently, the male party was diagnosed with diabetes and also suffers from dementia and he had not taken his medication that day. The female party stated that she was afraid of the male party (husband) because he had hit her multiple times in the lower back and hip approximately 30 minutes prior to their arrival. She then confirmed that she had been struck with the male party’s fist.

The Nederland deputy and the Boulder County sheriff then switched to talk to the alternate party. The male party told the Nederland deputy that he had not taken his medication and had drank some scotch that day. He stated that he had gotten up to do chores around the home that morning, but the female party had stayed in bed which was increasingly frustrating to him.

He also felt scared because he didn’t feel well. During the subsequent argument with the female party, he “swatted her on the butt” with an open hand. When she went to call 911, he stated he told her he would “kill her if she called 911.” He was unsure as to why he would say that and denied having a prior history of these types of incidents.

Shortly after taking the reports, another Boulder County Deputy arrived and spoke with the male party. The Sugarloaf Volunteer Fire Department and AMR ambulance arrived to check out the male party. When they were done, the male party was placed under arrest and transported to Boulder County Jail.

On 2/14/19, Nederland PD observed a vehicle parked on E. 5th Street with a tow tag attached to the antenna dated 2/12/19. No front or rear plates were evident and there was a copy of a bill of sale in the rear window with vehicle info only partially legible. The vehicle showed signs of damage and upon investigation it was discovered to have been registered to a male party in Oklahoma. The vehicle was towed and impounded with Marv’s Towing in Boulder. On 2/19/19, the VIN # was cleared and NPD mailed a letter notification of impound to the last known owner of the vehicle in Oklahoma.

On 2/25/19, NPD arrived at a local auto shop to investigate a report of an attempted truck theft. The owner reported he discovered the driver’s side door keyway was punched out and illegal entry to the truck had occurred. Upon further investigation he found the ignition switch had been destroyed in an attempt to start the truck. The truck did not start, however. The NPD officer looked the truck over for fingerprints and found none. Estimated damage to the truck is approximately $700.
