In February, the Nederland Marshal’s Office issued 35 non-parking tickets, one city ordinance violation and three city ordinance traffic violations.
On Feb. 6, a Nederland officer was sent to investigate a report of a trespass. The officer was told that the suspect was now lying in the road, not wearing any shoes or socks. The temperature was about 20 degrees with the wind blowing. Nederland Fire Protection District medics checked the suspect for hypothermia and then released him into the custody of a deputy. The suspect was transported to the Boulder County Jail on charges of first degree criminal trespass. The resident of the house filed a protection order against the man.
On Feb. 19, a local business owner reported that there was a person repossessing some property from a neighboring residence. A civil standby was requested. A woman talked to the officer, upset that the officers and the man went into the shed where her bratwurst were being stored. The officers told the woman she should discuss the possession of the key with the owner of the property.
On Feb. 15, a police officer was informed that an intoxicated male was trying to purchase liquor at a local store. The man showed signs of intoxication such as glazed eyes, slurred speech and difficulty walking. A license check showed his license to be clear of warrants. The man was given a courtesy ride. The next day, the officer found a warrant for a man with the same date of birth and discovered that there was an active warrant for his arrest. Before the man was transported to the Boulder County Jail, he asked that someone take care of his chickens while he was gone.
On Feb.12, a resident complained that a concrete planter had been placed at the exit of W. First Street. The officer noted that the planter had been pushed off the sidewalk from in front of the Visitor Center into the eastbound lane of West First Street. The planter had not been damaged, but there were fresh tire tracks in the snow. It had apparently been pushed by some type of vehicle, probably one with a plow or a heavy bumper. The Nederland Public Works Department had to use a back hoe to return the planter to its original location. The case is inactive until a suspect vehicle is located.
On Feb. 12, a Nederland officer was sent to check on a disturbance report and was told that an intoxicated man was inside a local business. He was said to be belligerent and cursing at the store’s staff. The man was described as older, with grey hair, a black eye and wearing black clothing and a black coat. He was carrying a large bottle of vodka.
The officer found the man in the neighboring store. He saw a bottle of vodka on the counter next to the man with about one third of the bottle missing. The officer took the man out of the store and placed him in his patrol car.
A Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy transported the man to BCJ. The man insisted he had two $100 bills in the pocket of his coat. The bills were later found in his sock. A canister of body balm was also found in his possession, which was identified as coming from one of the shops. The man was told not to return to either of the shops.
On the way to the jail, the man became aggressive and the officer had to stop and put a spit mask over his head. He was charged with defacing property and unlawful actions involving alcohol and theft.
