Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. A 69-year-old Sheridan man died at the scene of a rollover accident at the intersection of County Road 99 and Highway 72 on Sunday.
He had been driving east in his 1999 Honda SUV when he drove off the right side of the road and rolled twice, knocking over a flagpole before settling on the vehicle’s wheels. The man was ejected from the vehicle.
Passersby called the accident in at 12:24 p.m. Timberline Fire Protection District firefighters, Gilpin County Ambulance Authority, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Nederland Police Department personnel responded to the accident and emergency workers administered CPR to the patient but he died at the scene.
Trooper and Public Information Officer Josh Lewis said the accident did not appear to be caused by alcohol, drugs or speed and that the coroner would determine if there was a medical issue involved.
Hwy. 72 traffic was closed to one lane while state troopers investigated the scene.
The identity of the man has not yet been released.
