Fast food on First Street

Posted

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  For the past few weekends, pedestrians have been stopping by the mobile unit parked on First Street, at the edge of the parking lot next to the Rocky Mountain Oyster. Signs advertising Whitewater Wraps.

An English bulldog sleeps contentedly on the makeshift patio below the ordering window. Her name is Seymour. She is the mascot of the business, who claim to be the Colorado Burrito Solution.

The take out business is owned by Kyle Gohan and Elijah Harter who are Nederland residents and Eldora Mountain Resort employees. They are amped about bringing their food to their hometown.

Whitewater Wraps has been in business 1999, traveling the state, serving food at music festivals during the ski resort off season, but now they want to keep it home on weekends.

The business began in Salida and the two men purchased it from the director of Monarch Ski Resort. They have leased the property the mobile unit sits on and say Ned will be their home base. They boast Colorado style products, everything 100 percent compostable.

“We have no red meat, we don’t do that,” they say.

Kenny and Page Sokolowski work in the kitchen, creating burritos, tacos and nachos that are filled with fresh ingredients that give their food a tasty crunch, a feeling that you are eating real food. The protein choices include carnitas, chicken, sweet potato and seared ahi.

Not only do they pride themselves in being environmentally sensitive, they also seek to make the world a kinder place. “At Whitewater Wraps we’ve made it a personal mission to approach every interaction in our lives with the guiding reminder to be kind. Amid the variables of life, we all have our moments of outward frustration, but as it was simply put in Roadhouse, “Relax and…be nice about it.”

Whitewater Wraps will be in town most weekends.
