In the past week, many aspen stands have quaked off their gold leaves, while many others are still in the process of pulling their autumnal shroud about them, from the tallest of the trees, to the youngsters to the shrubs that carpet the ground. It has been a phenomenal fall, spared by the usual September frost that dims the light of the palette.
