Barbara Lawlor, Eldora.  On Sunday, March 13, the Eldora Mountain Ski and Snowboard Club Extreme Pinks Team competed in its fourth and last competition of the season. The meet took place at Breckenridge.

Freeride Programs Director and Snowboard Team Head Coach Adir Sharon says that 20 kids participated with the team and brought home a season total of 79 medals and ribbons for first through fifth place.

“Be Brave.  Take risks. Have fun.  Nothing can substitute experience,” is the team’s philosophy.

“We believe that through fun experiences, instilling confidence, and pushing the limits in a safe and controlled environment we are able to take any skier or rider to the next level.”

The Extreme Pink Team freestyle/freeride snowboard program is geared towards 9-14 year old boys and girls. The focus is on an entry-level introduction into the competitive world. All team athletes must be proficient all-mountain riders. They need to consistently connect turns in trees, bumps, and hold an edge while connecting carves on blue runs. They should be comfortable connecting switch turns on all groomed runs.

Riding in the terrain park comes after learning the basics. This is what we are geared to teach and coach, says Sharon. “If you’ve never hit a box or a rail before, awesome! We want you! If you can hit 30 foot kickers or spin 540s off small jumps, awesome! We want you!”

The team is looking at possibly hosting their own event at Eldora next season.
