Sorting at the Sort Yard 2024 Complete details of accepted items can be found at boco.org/sortyards. The Community Forestry Sort Yards will be opening soon, and this information is to update everyone about changes and current guidelines.
1. One pile will be slash less than four inches in diameter of conifers with green or brown needles, broadleaves with buds or leaves, and brush.
2. Another pile will be decayed conifer and broadleaf logs and slash that have no needles, leaves, or buds.
3. Green logs greater than four inches in diameter will be stacked according to length (2,4,8,10,12, and 16 feet).
4. There will be a roll off container to put paper lawn bags of pine needles, pine cones, grass, leaves, plants, and weeds into.
5. The last pile will be all chipped material.
6. Loose plants, weeds, and grasses cannot be mixed into the open piles. This will cause seed dispersal.
7. The branches of the green logs need to be cut flush to the bole wood.
8. The paper lawn bags should be rolled up and flipped upside down when loaded into the roll off container.
9. Please do not close the bags with tape or staples, because they are not compostable
