Dear Editor,
Dr. David Forsyth, director of the Gilpin County Historical Society, was recently interviewed on Colorado Public Radio. The topic was a new book, The Amusement Park at Sloan's Lake: The Lost History of Denver's Manhattan Beach, by Dr. Forsyth.
The history of the park which was functioning in the late 1800s is interesting and entertaining. It involves in part steamboat rides, swimming, dancing, and elephant rides. Check out the interview which can be heard and read at cpr.org. The book is available at Washington Hall in Central City.
This summer is an excellent time to visit the Gilpin History Museum in Central City. It is a great way to get in touch with our own community's past in the beautiful old stone high school building. Check out gilpinhistory.org for hours. information and upcoming events.
Thank you David, for all you do to add pride to Colorado and our unique mountain community. Well done.
