Despite what had been predicted to be a fairly dismal winter season in terms of snowfall, March surprised everyone by bringing nearly seven feet of snow to the mountains. This bounty of moisture from the sky was so plentiful that Eldora Mountain Ski Resort was ready to seize the opportunity.
On March 31, Eldora announced that they will be extending their season for outdoor recreation by one more week, to April 21, making this 2024 season the longest in Eldora’s over 60 year history.
In a blog post on their official website, it was stated that the Alpenglow, Corona, and Sundance lifts will remain open from April 15 to 21. Private lessons through the ski school will be available for intermediate and advanced students, though in a limited capacity.
Cross country skiing at the Nordic Center will also be limited during the season’s new final week, though the site specifies that such activity is dependent on the conditions of the terrain. The Lookout Lodge, Timbers Cafe, and Timbers Tap House will continue to offer a slightly slenderized menu of food and beverage options.
Uphill access will be open for passholders on Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
General Manager of Eldora Brent Tregaskis stated his excitement for the gift of snow that allowed this unprecedented extension.
“We’re thrilled to offer amazing skiing and riding conditions to our guests for one more week than we had originally planned,” Tregaskis wrote. “March really treated us well in terms of snowfall and we want to keep sharing the bounty.
“With so much snow and so few people this time of year, the Eldora experience is better now than at any point earlier this winter, and we’re so close to the Front Range that it’s easy for a quick visit to Eldora any day of your week.”
According to the blog post, “an action-packed Closing Weekend will be planned with live music, events, and more on April 20 and 21.” Eldora’s website, www.eldora.com, notes that more updates will be posted soon on what patrons can expect during closing weekend.
Eldora also reminds their guests to check www.eldora.com/conditions and view the “daily operations report” before leaving their homes in order to be up to date on the goings-on up on the mountain.
