Barbara Lawlor, Eldora. Delicious.
When asked how to describe the conditions at Eldora Mountain Resort last weekend, one snowboarder just smiled, smacked his lips and said, “Delicious.”
Over 18 inches of puffy snow landed on the trails at the resort and on Friday morning, the line of powder pillow seeking skiers and snowboarders snaked up the canyon hoping to get to the resort before the Parking Lot is Full sign went up at the beginning of the ski road.
Large groups of people waited at the bus stops in town, praying that some of the powder was left for them. The conditions were fantastic all weekend long. The sky was a deep blue, the wind nothing more than a snow-devil maker and the pine trees were plopped with crystalline formations.
All the trails were open 54/54 and snow depth was 55 inches at both the base and the summit.
On Sunday, March 27, EMR will host the Annual Easter Egg Hunt which has children scrambling over hills of snow digging for the colored eggs that hold hundreds of prizes.
It is time to go through the closet and find your funky, from the 70s and 80s and even older one piece shiny ski suits. There finally is a good reason for hanging onto those relics from another time. On Saturday, April 2, EMR will sponsor the popular Retro Days events, from looking for the best costume to competing in the fun obstacle courses and dance contests.
Then, on April 10, the last skier of the season will make the last run before the ski patrol makes their final sweep at the end of the day. Although it always sad to say goodbye to a great snowsports season, it also time to welcome spring and the greening of the mountains.
