Benefits and concerns

The EcoPass program is an annual prepaid transit pass purchased by employers and provides unlimited usage of RTD services, including buses and trains for employees. It’s generally a cost-effective investment for businesses.

Bus riders have been obtaining a hand-held green pass, allowing them to ride from Nederland to Boulder and beyond. Until recently, the green pass was the ticket to endless free rides.

According to a social media post by the Nederland Colorado Town Hall, “RTD has begun transitioning away from the old green EcoPass cards to their new MyRide app.” But what about communities with large populations where a phone or app isn’t an option?

Reasonable concerns also include a dead or lost phone, disempowering people who can not afford technology, lack of alternatives, and added stress or confusion for those who are not technologically savvy.

Town Hall has a limited number of green cards available on a case-by-case basis, but for whom and for how long? The town is working with RTD for more cards but states that RTD is “Really trying to get folks to use the app.”

To use the MyRide App, follow these steps:

-Download the RTD MyRide App using the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

-Every individual needs to create a new account using the same email address Town Hall uses to contact you.

-Set up a Barcode by clicking “MyRide” on the App Home page and following the instructions.

-There’s no need to add funds.

-Wait for an email verification from the Town of Nederland confirming your pass.

The town hopes RTD understands the Nederland and surrounding communities are home to a “larger population where a phone app won’t be a viable option.” Riders under 19 can continue to ride for free until August 2023. Residents of the Nederland EcoPass District can stop by Town Hall to receive assistance with the app.

Nederland Colorado Town Hall is located at 45 W 1st Street, Nederland. You can learn more by visiting https://townofnederland. colorado.gov/ecopass or calling Town Hall at 303-258-3266.
