Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. The Gilpin Eagle girls’ basketball team punched down their losing spell and grabbed two wins last week, beating Shining Mountain and Belleview Christian, giving them an overall 5-9 record.
Hosting Shining Mountain on Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Eagles stepped up, dominating the court from the beginning and taking a 20-8 lead by halftime.
They never gave in to Shining Mountain’s march in the second half and won the game 37-28.
Khristine Barr was the high scorer with 10 points and Keely Schmidt had five rebounds.

On Friday, Jan. 29, the Eagles traveled to Belleview Christian and came away with a 35-11 win. Khristine Barr was high scorer, with 11 points, and Berkley Davis led with 8 rebounds. The defense did a great job of grabbing the ball, with 22 steals in the game.
