Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County, In the first game of the season, the Gilpin Eagles traveled to Sanford and came home with a 30-6 win against the Indians.
The first quarter yielded no points for either team but then the Eagles put six on the board before the second half.
If Gilpin fans were happy then, they got a lot happier in the third quarter when the Eagles scored two more touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
Sanford scrambled to score in the fourth quarter but that six points was answered by another Eagle touchdown and two-point conversion.
Quarterback Chase Boulter completed five of 9 passes for 97 yards and one touchdown. He made one two-point conversion. His longest pass was for 40 yards.
He also carried the ball 26 times for 125 yards.
Jack Ball carried once for 13 yards and a touchdown.
Matthew Immordino had the ball 10 times, for 105 yards, and scored one touchdown.
Jon Lovett carried three times for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Bjorn Tomlinson carried 12 times for 72 yards and one two-point conversion.
Eryk Lorenz caught one pass, 40 yards, to score a touchdown.
Immorodino caught one 29-yard pass and Tomlinson caught three passes for 28 yards.
Kicking: Matthew Immordino kicked five kickoffs for 193 yards.
Junior Bradyn Perez returned one kickoff for 11 yards.
Gilpin had 15 first downs to Sanford’s 10; 8 penalties to Sanford’s 13; and 57 penalty yards to Sanford’s 85.
