Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. It was a tough week for the Gilpin High School Eagles' boys basketball team, losing two consecutive away games this past week, bringing them to a 5-6 record for the season.
On Wednesday, January 21, Gilpin traveled to Idaho Springs to play the Clear Creek Golddiggers, who are 2-10. The Eagles sunk into the Diggers mine shaft in the third period and couldn't dig their way out and lost 57-63. The score was 20-20 at halftime. Then Clear Creek sprang into action, gaining 10 points on the Eagles, who worked hard to get it back in the fourth period but could only gain six points—not enough to reclaim the game.
Matthew Immordino stacked up 22 points and Chase Boulter came up with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Last Saturday, January 24, the Eagles traveled to Jim Elliot to play the Warriors who are 11-1. The Warriors outplayed the Eagles, 37-66. Gilpin's Immordino had another great game scoring 22 points, but it wasn't enough to put a dent in the Warriors’ third place in league status.
