Dear Editor,
In response to the letter wanting the Barker Reservoir to be designated as a voice and sight dog park, I understand that dog owners want to have their pets happy. However, many folks enjoy the quiet calm there. They also enjoy watching geese, ducks, great blue herons, and other birds that are found along the shore. These water foul have the right to live safely in their habitat.
Currently, off-leash dogs already create a commotion there. They head for the water, splash around, and chase birds, especially the small young goslings and ducklings found in the spring. Officially allowing this would create a major problem.
There should be a dog park somewhere, but the reservoir is not the place for it.
