The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has taken appropriate precautions and is ready to safely serve more Coloradans.
In an effort to provide critical services that Coloradans need, the DMV will begin Phase 2 of its reopening plan on Wednesday, May 6, by offering critical services to Coloradans at 10 more state driver license offices.
The soon-to-be-open offices are Boulder, Canon City, Durango, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greeley, Lakewood, Lamar, Littleton and Salida. Appointments in these offices can be made starting on Monday, May 4.
The ten offices above are in addition to nine offices that will open on Monday, May 4, and will already be serving commercial drivers license customers on an appointment-only basis in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Glenwood Springs, Golden, Lakewood Westgate, Loveland, Montrose, Northglenn and Pueblo. These nine offices will offer all driver services appointments only on Monday, May 11.
On Monday, May 4, Coloradans can begin scheduling appointments by calling 303-205-5613 opt. 4; or 303-205-2335 for CO-RCSA services. This is so the DMV may serve customers more efficiently by prioritizing appointments for services that can only be performed in-office.
The reopening of these 10 offices is part of a comprehensive plan to reopen driver license offices throughout the state to all Coloradans on an appointment-only basis. The DMV will evaluate the reopening process and will make any adjustments as necessary to protect and serve our customers and staff members. Announcements about subsequent reopening phases will be made as they are rolled out.
During this phased reopening, the DMV will be unable to serve walk-in customers. Additionally, customers must wear a face mask or covering to be served.
Customers will be screened before entering all offices. A DMV employee will screen all customers and staff with a laser thermometer for fevers as well as administer a COVID-19 questionnaire. Customers and staff members who have fevers or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed into state offices.
Customers should not bring guests because guests will not be allowed into any driver license office while social distancing is being utilized. If a guest is essential such as a caregiver or translator, customers must specify that a guest is needed when making an appointment.
As a temporary safety precaution, the DMV will not conduct drive tests and encourages soon-to-be-drivers to reach out to a driving school for testing.
The DMV worked with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to develop the phased plan and follows CDPHE’s and the CDC’s guidance.
Although these driver license offices are open on an appointment-only basis, the DMV encourages Coloradans to visit a driver license office only when online services are not an option. Instances when a visit to a driver license office is essential include:
Coloradans needing DMV services can cut the risk and skip the trip with myDMV.Colorado.gov, which offers 35 online services including:
Coloradans who have questions about DMV services should call 303-205-5600. Customers with questions about CO-RCSA services should call 303-205-2335. Please note that due to the number of questions we are receiving, our phone waits may be longer than normal.
The DMV appreciates Coloradans’ patience as it works to provide the best service possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.
