Omayra Acevedo,  Peak to Peak.  No, I’m not suggesting that the city of Denver is under some unfortunate control. I’m simply going to share with you, per some of your requests, some things to do that will cost you absolutely nothing. Well, maybe a little gas money. My first destination is Denver. With a city this big, you are sure to have plenty of free things to do. So, pack some snacks and let’s hit the road.

The irony in our first stop is that it is all about money. Whether you’re short on it or not, you can take a free tour at the United States Denver Mint. Enjoy a 45-minute guided tour and learn the history of coinage. I haven’t been there myself, but I hear that both kids and adults find enjoyment while visiting. Sorry, unlike other tours, this one doesn’t offer free samples.

Another 45-minute tour you can take while in Denver, is the Colorado State Capitol building. You don’t even need a professional to show you around. You can go on a self-guided tour through the building while it’s open. You can’t miss it. It’s the big building resembling our nation’s Capital in Washington D.C.

My third suggestion is the Tattered Cover Book Store on East Colfax. The bookstore has as long a history as it does collection of books. If you so happen to stop in at the right time, you may even run into one of your favorite authors. If you’ve got a few bucks, grab a drink from the café and sit on a comfy sofa while you enjoy the ambience that one can only get from such a quaint community bookstore.

One last recommendation I will make, is taking a stroll along the 16th Street Mall. Tons of people watching, window shopping and even free live music and entertainment as you get some exercise walking up and down the streets.

I know I haven’t covered a ton of free things to do, but that should get you started. Don’t forget that throughout the year, many Denver attractions offer free days. Like, The Denver Zoo, The Botanic Gardens and a handful of museums also offer free admission on special days.

As with any planning, whether it is free or not, please check online for specific details, times, locations, etc. Last thing you want to encounter is wasted time. That’ll surely put a price on your free experience.
