Discover Colorado: Exploring Evergreen

Omayra Acevedo, Peak to Peak. Sometimes when I wish to get away from things, but not go too far, I think of Evergreen. You can find just about anything there that you would find in a big city. The difference is the views, the feel and the little things that make Evergreen what it is. Theater, arts, music, dining, shopping, outdoor recreation and relaxation. All surrounded by the majesty of the Rocky Mountains. It’s a great place for a weekend get-a-way alone or with your favorite person.

The Cabins at Country Road, Colorado Bear Creek Cabins, Alpen Way Chalet Mountain Lodge are just a few of the great places you can spend a night or the entire weekend. Each one offers its own rustic country mountain charm. You’re close to everything, but far enough to enjoy the serenity of nature.

While you’re there, you can learn a little about the history of Evergreen by visiting the Hiwan Homestead Museum and taking a free guided tour of this property and the beauty that surrounds it. It’s incredible being inside and feeling like you’ve traveled back in time. Please don’t forget the camera.

After your tour, you can head straight to downtown where the restaurants, cafes and stores never offer a dull experience. You can spoil yourself with some ice cream and go sit by the creek or enjoy a stroll around Evergreen Lake. Plenty of fishermen and wildlife can be seen around this beautiful jewel. At times you can find the Evergreen Herd of Elk right on the golf course nearby. It’s important to remember, that though wildlife in Colorado tend to be comfortable around humans, you should never approach them. Be respectful and admire from a safe distance. They are wild for a reason.

Feel like exploring even further? Other options less than an hour away from Evergreen are: Mount Evans, Maxwell Falls and Big E Game Ranch – home of the white Buffalo. By the creek or lush hillside, in town for some shopping or dining, or inside a cozy cabin, Evergreen is a mountain town that truly has it all.
