Omayra Acevedo, Peak to Peak.  Less than 20 miles from the city of Boulder, is the town of Lyons, Colorado. Though tiny, there is still plenty to do. You can even get to the town of Estes Park via Lyons. Today, however, I am going to focus on a small, but not-so-tiny attraction. Lyons is – and has been - the home of Spirit Hound Distillers for the past six years. Happy Anniversary, Spirit Hound!

Spirit Hound Distillers pride themselves in producing the highest-quality, hand-crafted spirits. These include: Whisky, Gin, Vodka, Sambuca, Coffee Liqueur (great over ice cream) and Moonshine. All of which are available for sampling and purchase in their tasting room. A room, that in my opinion, adds to their already rustic, charming ambiance. You can’t go wrong visiting and enjoying a place that gives their brand names like, Mountain Bum Rum and White Dog Moonshine.

What else is great about dropping in at Spirit Hound? They offer around 20 cocktails. Those that prefer a mixed drink can have one and those that prefer their spirits neat can have it their way as well. Twice a year, in May and October, their cocktail menu is reconstructed to compliment the changes of the seasons. This is exciting, as they can take a classic recipe and play off of it to add their own twists. Something not to be missed.

A little birdie has told me that a few Colorado retailers now carry their 90 proof Straight Malt Whisky. If I were you, however, I’d go to the distillery to enjoy one of their spirits or drinks. Throughout the year, Spirit Hound Distillers provides you with local music and events. This makes sipping your adult beverage even more entertaining.

Another event you should be on the look-out for, are their releases. You never know what they’re releasing, when or how much. Their releases depend on many factors; it’s difficult to pinpoint when a release will occur exactly. You could, however, sign up for their newsletter through the website or by visiting. It’s a good way to get the heads up on all things Spirit Hound.

So, are you heading out yet? It’s a fun place that supports other local businesses by primarily using local ingredients. It’s a place full of character, appeal, great taste and comfort. A place where you can “Treat yourself to a special Colorado mountain drinking experience.” Not only are their spirits and cocktails delicious, but also very colorful.
