Gilpin County Democrats gathered to watch November 8 election results at the home of Jeanne Nicholson, former County Commissioner and State Senator. At about 9 p.m. Nicholson told The Mountain-Ear, “Things are looking good for Democrats in Gilpin County.”
U.S. Senator Michael Bennett won his seat and Governor Jared Polis won his second term as governor. Joe Neguse was elected to his second term in Congress.
April Nielsen won as Assessor. Nielsen said she is very, very excited. Nielsen jumped in at the last minute when the previous Democratic nominee suddenly withdrew, and had a great deal of support from the party and her family.
Sahari McCormick won her second term as Clerk and Recorder.
Susan Berumen won as County commissioner. She said, “It’s exciting. It’s been almost 15 months of campaigning.” Now she is relaxing and getting ready to get to work in January.
Unopposed winners also include: Coroner – Zane Laubhan (Democrat); Surveyor – Corey Diekman (Democrat); Treasurer– Mary Lorenz (Republican); and Sheriff – Kevin Armstrong (Republican).
