Barbara Lawlor, Nederland. Afternoon sunlight reflected off the rim of the wine glasses; ruby, amber, and silver liquid was gently swirled as guests breathed in the nectar of the fruit. A bite-sized taste of pesto, mozzarella, and tomato was enjoyed and swallowed; a caramelized onion tart savored. A different kind of wine, a taste of a new batch.
Nederland Community Center Foundation held its annual fundraiser Saturday afternoon, August 8, in the parking lot, under a tent, with tables laden with 36 different wines from Dam Liquor and appetizers made by catering chefs Kim Culver and Lauran. To blend the ambience, the Defunkt Railroad band entertained the NCC supporters.
While donors chewed and swallowed, enjoying the elegant fare, they compared taste notes and spoke of the plans for the renovation of the property and the center’s west wing. They also strolled around the silent auction table, picking the artwork, the gift certificates, and the services to bid on.
This is a crucial time for the NCC Foundation: The new NCC Site plan has been approved by the Nederland Board of Trustees and work has begun on the first two phases.
The NCC is the hub of our community. It is the home of the Mountain Forum for Peace Yard Sale, Art at the Center, the Nederland Veteran Community Outreach, The Nederland Food Pantry, The Backdoor Theatre, the Fitness Place, the Community Clothes Closet, the Nederland Area Seniors meal site, Boulder County services, local events, and emergency headquarters.
The Foundation is currently seeking a new board member. Current members are Jilene Noman, Secretary; Charles Wood, Trustee Liaison; Tracy Brewer, treasurer; Jen Lavely, Linda Glasser, and Martin Mann. If interested, email nccfoundation@nederlandcommunitycenter.org.
A Summer Celebration was a brilliant way to have a great time for a great cause. The NCC is, after all, your mountain meeting place.
