Longtime resident and philanthropist David H. Shortridge (DD) passed away on May 15, 2020, in Boulder, Colorado. He was born on March 5, 1936, to Muncie and Ethel (Conover) Shortridge. He considered Newport News, Virginia his hometown, although he attended General H. H. Arnold High School in Wiesboden, Germany.

The Shortridge Family Foundation was created to honor the memory of his son David II by offering grants for basic needs and services, arts and humanities, education, health and sports, and civic improvements to the Nederland Mountain Community.
The family says, “There will always be some sadness as we think about the loss of my father David Shortridge. Now is the time to reflect and celebrate his life. Nederland was his home for more than 40 years. He will be missed but not forgotten.”
Mr. Shortridge was known for his many financial contributions to the Peak to Peak community over the years through the foundation, in particular to the NMSHS as well as the Nederland Area Seniors Program, however he was known to fill in the gaps whenever and wherever he saw a need.
He is survived by his brother Muncie Jr.; son Michael; daughters Nina and Lynn; and grandchildren Andy, Sarah and Camille.
