Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. In the past week, the Gilpin School District celebrated the beginning of May with three concerts and a week of student art hanging on the walls. The beginning of May was filled with beauty and culture that Eagles large and small created.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, pre-school, first, second and third grades performed, singing modern versions of nursery rhymes and overwhelming the audience with their cuteness.
On May 3, the fourth and fifth graders took the stage and on Wednesday, May 9, the high school students shared their talent and energy. It is just the beginning of a whirlwind of celebrations that the students will be enjoying as the school year winds down and they prepare to move forward, some of them making the big jump of leaving Gilpin schools.
Parents and friends attended the concerts and then had a chance to see artwork that the classes had created. There were stunning ceramics from the older students and an assortment of turtles from the kindergartners. All the same color but each with a distinctive style.
The students were allowed to take their artwork home, except for the top winners, whose work will be on display at the Gilpin County Art Show over the summer.
