JAMESTOWN -- The Jamestown Mercantile is bringing back the Cosmic Winter Wonderfest for its second annual run! Rainbow Shultz, the owner of the establishment colloquially known as the “Merc,” is ecstatic to bring back the festival for another year!
The 2024 Cosmic Winter Wonderfest also took place in February, and Shultz received many compliments from attendees about the event. Since Frozen Dead Guy Days moved from Nederland to Estes, the Wonderfest served as a way for local members to celebrate winter in their area.
Shultz has found that for small businesses, particularly those in the mountains, it’s harder to keep going in the winter months than in the summer months. With fewer tourists visiting in the winter, it’s typically harder for smaller businesses to maintain a steady income over those months.
Ultimately, when brainstorming ideas to encourage winter visitors, the staff of the Merc, particularly Shultz, felt that a warm, welcoming party would be the perfect celebration. With food, hot drinks, live music, and psychic readings, the event allows the community to gather and dance to celebrate a colder time of year.
Last year, when Shultz asked psychics if they were interested in reading at the Wonderfest, all of them expressed interest. Ultimately, long lines formed for all of them, so Shultz invited many more this year.
If attendees want a quieter environment, the psychics will read in the town hall next door. Attendees can also grab dinner and talk with their friends and family in the town hall.
For those excited to celebrate loud and proud, the Merc will host four live bands throughout the festival: Alphatones, Bear Hat, Rolling Harvest, and Canyon Collective. The music will last for the entirety of the festival.
Shultz felt that last year’s Wonderfest combined elements of a special dinner and a celebration with the community that allowed it to stand out from other similar festivals. She has always loved connecting with the community of Jamestown as a whole, encouraging creativity and excitement from everyone who comes to visit.
Ultimately, Shultz hopes to foster a sense of community in the events hosted at the Merc, and she feels that especially for the winter months, this is a perfect festival for building community.
The Second Annual Cosmic Winter Wonderfest will be hosted at The Jamestown Mercantile, located at 108 Main Street in Jamestown, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
