Dear Editor,
I regret that there was one error in my letter to the editor, titled “Justice delayed is justice denied.” The error involves the Steve Bannon quote, which I attributed to a “hot mike” recorded days before the January 6th insurrection. In actuality, Bannon’s quote, as stated in the Liz Cheney book, Oath and Honor, a Memoir and a Warning, came from when he was speaking to a “group from China” days before the November election. Part of the quote reads, “And what Trump’s going to do is just declare victory, right? He’s gonna declare victory, but that doesn’t mean he’s the winner, he’s just going to say he’s a winner. He’s gonna declare himself a winner.”
As you know, Trump had steadfastly stated that he could only lose that election unless it was “rigged,” despite losing by over 7 million votes.
Bannon was convicted of Contempt of Congress for refusing to testify to the House Select Committee on the January 6th insurrection. He was sentenced to four months in prison and is, of course, appealing.
