Congratulations to The Mountain-Ear and particularly to Christopher Kelley for the shower of awards received at the CPA convention on September 23. I think Christopher has probably locked in another award at next year’s convention for his story in the 9/28 Mountain-Ear: “2023 The year of Ron Mitchell.’’ In these times when far too many people get their “news” (often fake, occasionally real) from the internet, tweets, Instagram, etc… It is so refreshing to see real, good journalism with an in-depth study of a significant issue in the printed press.

I’m saddened that so many of the last couple generations of Americans think their smartphone is the do-all, end-all of relevant information.

‘Tis their great loss that they will never know the wonderful experience of sitting down with a cup of coffee, and spending an hour reading a really good Sunday or weekly paper (made from real trees), front to back.

Thanks to Christopher and The Mountain-Ear for that great feature story last week. Well done! Everyone in Nederland should read it.
