NEDERLAND - A new opportunity has arisen for those excited about exercise, about sport, and about some competitive fun.
Thanks to the passionate spirit of Nederland locals, Community Volleyball has arrived; open for adults of all skill levels who are eager to get their heart rates up, to break a sweat, and to share a smile with their teammates after a perfectly-timed spike.
Started by Amber Joslin as an opportunity to play the game she loves with some of her favorite people, Community Volleyball has become a weekly event that has grown to host volleyball enthusiasts from Gilpin County and Coal Creek as well.
Every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., the smacking sounds of a ball being served, the squeaking of scuffling sneakers on the court as players scramble to return a floater, and the excited yells of victory can all be heard coming from the Nederland Community Center’s gymnasium.
After stretching, players who attend get the feel of the court and control over the ball, and quickly get into a groove once the games begin. As the matches roll on, every player starts setting up those perfect passes, and the two teams begin working up impressive back-and-forth volleys as each person gets more comfortable and starts to feel the camaraderie.
These weekly friendly games, organized by Joslin and Rebecca Wickre, can be joined by any adult, seasoned player or one who hasn’t played a game in years. For those interested, visit the Nederland Community Center gymnasium, on Thursdays starting at 5 p.m.
The Nederland Community Center is located at 750 Colorado Highway 72 in Nederland and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
