Common consumption areas come and stay

bh firefightersJohn Scarffe, Black Hawk.   Another new Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area will come to Black Hawk, and five more will stay after the Black Hawk City Council regular meeting on Wednesday, January 27, at 3 p.m., at 211 Church Street. At the May 27, 2015 meeting, Council approved city code changes regarding Entertainment Districts to allow extended hours for a Promotional Association to serve alcohol between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., if requested through application.

The Front Range Entertainment District, LLC, became the newest business to request a Certification of a Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area. The application was received by the Clerk’s office on January 7, 2016. The Monarch Promotional Association has met all the requirements for a Promotional Association and is requesting extended hours.

The Council approved the request for the Front Range Entertainment District, LLC, and approved the 2016 Recertification of a Promotional Association for five other associations. The Black Hawk Municipal Code requires certified promotional associations to apply for recertification by January 31 of each year.

City Attorney Corey Hoffmann told the Council that the city has received no negative information, including complaints from neighbors, about the five applicants; therefore, a public hearing is not needed.

The Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area for AG Black Hawk Promotional Association was certified by the local licensing authority on August 12, 2015.  The 2016 Recertification Application packet was received in the City Clerk’s Office on January 20, 2016.

The Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area for the Horseshoe Gilpin, Inc., was certified by the local licensing authority on June 25, 2015. The 2016 Recertification Application packet was received in the City Clerk’s Office on January 19, 2016.

The Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area for the Isle Promotional Association was certified by the local licensing authority on August 26, 2015. The 2016 Recertification Application packet was received in the City Clerk’s Office on January 8, 2016.

The Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area for The Lodge Association, Inc., was certified by the local licensing authority on August 12, 2015. The 2016 Recertification Application packet was received in the City Clerk’s Office on January 19, 2016.

The Promotional Association and Common Consumption Area for the Monarch Promotional Association, Inc., was certified by the local licensing authority on September 23, 2015. The 2016 Recertification Application packet was received in the City Clerk’s Office on January 20, 2016.

Biggest Loser Winners

For the past two years, the City of Black Hawk has been promoting wellness and wellness activities during the holiday season, City Manager Jack Lewis told the Council. City employees were invited to participate in the “Maintain Don’t Gain Challenge.”

This year, the City extended the wellness contest to casinos, and Canyon Casino’s the Black Hawk Butt Busters, won the contest. Lewis awarded them the City’s Golden Sneaker Award and bragging rights for 2016.

The Butt Busters lost a total of 29 pounds with six participants, and average weight lost was 4.83 pounds. The City of Black Hawk City Hall Team Selakers came in second with total weight loss of 21.76 pounds per five participants, and 4.35 pounds of average weight loss.

Monarch’s Movin’ It, from the Monarch Casino, won third place with total weight loss of 20.70 pounds per five participants, and 4.14 pounds of average weight loss. City employees who maintained their weight within one pound of their pre-holiday weight, or lost weight, will be awarded a $50 gift card.

The next meeting of the Black Hawk City Council will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at 211 Church Street.
