Greetings Gilpin County Republicans and Unaffiliated Voters!
My name is Rick Wenzel and I am seeking your vote as a Republican party write-in candidate for County Commissioner in the June 28, 2022, primary election. My name won’t be on the Republican party ballot but you can write it in.
I have been a resident of Gilpin County for 18 years. Since living in Gilpin County, I have been involved with the fire service for 13 years. I served for six years as a volunteer firefighter with Colorado Sierra Fire Protection District and have been a Board member of both Colorado Sierra and Timberline Fire Protection Districts for 11 years. I was the first Board President of Timberline Fire in 2011 following the merger of Colorado Sierra and High County Fire. I held that office for three years followed by two years as Vice President. In 2016 I left the Board at the expiration of my term but returned in 2019. In 2020 I again assumed the office of President and have held that position ever since.
I have a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and am a licensed professional engineer in Colorado. I have worked as an engineer in both the private and public sectors. Most recently, I worked as an engineer at CDOT for 13 years in Denver, Boulder and Golden. In my final position I was a construction project engineer managing multi-million-dollar highway construction projects ranging from $1.4 million to $15 million.
I am also a Navy veteran. I served on active duty for six years and in the Navy Reserve for 16 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 2011. As a reservist I was recalled to active duty twice and sent overseas, once in 1991 for Operation Desert Storm and again in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As you can see, I have served my and my community with dedication and commitment, and I want to continue that service as your next County Commissioner.
As Commissioner, I will be committed to three things: 1) having civil discussion on all matters relating to county business, 2) making well informed and sound decisions based on the best available information, and 3) working for you every day to make our home better. Successful local governments are those where the leadership and staff work as a team to make decisions that best serve our community.
If you have any questions or would like to hear more about my ideas for serving Gilpin County, please call me at 720-760- 0260.
Thank you and write-in Rick Wenzel on your ballot for county commissioner!
