The first time I visited Estes Park was in the winter of 2007. Several times a year, I find myself exploring the town. It never ceases to amaze me how much I discover every time I’m there.

Last September, I attended a meeting in Estes. The location? Coffee on the Rocks. To no surprise, I was captivated by its name alone. As I approached the parking lot adjacent to the Rock Shop, I knew it would make one of my 2023 Discover Colorado columns.

I walked down the connecting bridge and past the front door. I leaned over the railing and inhaled. Ducks and geese danced in the pond, the gentle breeze embraced me, the sun’s warmth comforted me, and Prospect Mountain stared at me from a distance.

The natural setting was a mere indicator of the laid-back ambiance and service I received. I’ve visited a few times since that day, always cautiously observing the interactions between staff and guests. It never fails that there has always been a smiling face behind the counter.

Aside from the friendly welcome and the scenery, you can enjoy a cup of joe, tea, steamers, smoothies, hot chocolate, frappes, and various snacks. In the mood for breakfast? How about a burrito or breakfast sandwich? Coffee on the Rocks has got you covered.

If you’re an adult beverage drinker, cocktails, wine, beer, mimosas, and sangria are on the menu. The coffee shop is also home to music events held throughout the year, and their venue is perfect for weddings, business lunches, dinners, and cocktail receptions.

Want more reasons to visit and fall in love with Coffee on the Rocks? Check this statement out: “We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That’s why we source our fresh ingredients from local farmers’ markets.”

As I’ve said many times before, everything tastes better when it’s made with Rocky Mountain water and local ingredients. The company’s website claims, “Great coffee and beautiful scenery.” I’ve come to learn that it’s an understatement.

Whether you take your coffee warm or over ice, Coffee on the Rocks will not disappoint. I’ve made it no secret that Estes Park is one of my favorite mountain towns in Colorado. Not only because it’s home to Rocky Mountain National Park but because places like Coffee on the Rocks make the town special.
