Highway 72 through Coal Creek Canyon closed as a result of flooding. The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office reported on May 16 that the highway is currently open. It will remain open until 6 a.m. on May 17.
The road will close again from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Twin Spruce Road to Highway 93. During the closure, no through traffic will be permitted. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be allowed through.
Colorado Department of Transportation officials closed the highway between Highway 93 and Twin Spruce Road because of flooding and damage to the road.
