The Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association (CCCIA) hosted a Mardi Gras celebration on February 17, 2024. Admission to the hall was free, and there were a la carte menu items to purchase.
True to New Orleans Mardi Gras style, there was gumbo over rice, red beans with hot Louisiana andouille sausage, king cake, made-to-order beignets, and Cafe Du Monde coffee.
While people enjoyed a taste of The Big Easy, New Orleans soul and jazz played on vinyl records.
Sean Walkinshaw was one of the organizers. His wife, Rebecca, who is from New Orleans, cooked the gumbo and made the beignets. Servers included Shelley Peters, Norma Cassin, and Jay Schaller.
Events coming up at the CCCIA include the Shamrock Shuffle on March 16 (Get your dancing shoes on!) and the Easter Egg Hunt on March 23.
