Barbara Lawlor, Boulder County. Nederland Fire Protection District, Rocky Mountain Rescue, and Nederland Police Department responded to a report of a fallen climber on the north side of Boulder Canyon on Friday afternoon.
The victim fell about 40 feet when he stepped back away from the face of the wall to find he had failed to properly clip into his descent device. He landed at the bottom of the wall but still far enough above the highway to warrant a technical evacuation.
NFPD Chief Rick Dirr and department climber Dave Femmer and EMT Eric Abramson assisted in the rescue and the transfer of the victim to the AMR Ambulance. The patient had a possible broken ankle and lacerations to the head.
The canyon was not closed during the rescue.
