Monica LaSalle, Nederland. The Nederland High School Theater will premier Chicago: High School Edition. Next Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 7 p.m. Nederland High School will showcase a glitzy and gritty musical based on the original Broadway production Chicago, which is based on a 1926 play about actual criminals and features the work of legends John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse.

Known as the longest-running American musical in Broadway history, this version is tapered down a little for the younger crowd, but not so much it squeaks. Theater fans can look forward to seeing Meagan Figgins play Roxie Hart, a feisty fed up beauty who shoots her lover for trying to walk out on her. Inside prison, she meets Velma Kelly (played by Sasha Godsil), a murderess who kills her husband and sister because she caught them privately practicing dance moves, and Marguerite Bradley as she belts out “When You’re Good to Mama” portraying Matron “Mama” Morton, who makes deals on behalf of all her gals behind bars. Jakob Duncan plays Billy Flynn, the crafty and scheming lawyer both leading ladies are competing for to free them from prison.

The crew behind the scenes of Nederland High School Theater have worked long and hard to create magnificent moods and effects with carefully planned lighting and props. Though it is the High School Version, the cast and crew are guaranteed to put on a stunning and highly entertaining performance that should not be missed.

Opening next Thursday at 7 p.m., it can be seen Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m., as well as the following Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 20, at both 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Hope to see you there!
