The Central City Opera association put on a Festival Preview performance at the Teller House on May 10, 2024, with songs from all three of this summer’s productions. After the songs and performances, there was a reception at the Gilpin County Arts Association Gallery where the audience could meet with the cast and opera executives.

The 2024 festival season will feature Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta The Pirates of Penzance, which will open on June 29.

The second production is the Giacomo Puccini classic opera The Girl of the Golden West, which the opera company has located in the 1840s in Central City. Its opening night is July 6.

Street Scene is Kurt Weill’s two-act American opera, which will open on July 13. It tells the tale of multiethnic tenants in New York City and features music that ranges from operatic arias to jazz and blues.

Tickets to all three productions can be bought online at centralcityopera.org. Every show includes a pre-performance lecture 45 minutes before the performance to talk about the opera and its history.
