Some experts in psychology claim holiday decorations, especially those with lights, can bring on feelings of joy for many people. Therapists say holiday lights and decorations help some people connect with the past and create memories for the future.

Not only are holiday lights beautiful and create a fun ambiance, but many people find them mesmerizing, influencing happy thoughts. Elevated moods and emotions make it easier for people to get through day-to-day challenges.

During the 2023 holidays, Main Street Central City hosted a friendly contest of holiday lights, inspiring a festive environment and helping evoke an inviting mood throughout the town. In early 2024, Main Street Central City announced its prize winners in the 2023 Central City Holiday Lights Contest.

In the business category, Hawley Mercantile took first place, with Golden Rose Antiques in second place and Dostal Alley in third place.
