There was no new business on the agenda so the Council went directly to Staff Updates. City Manager Daniel Miera announced an upcoming retreat for the Council on Friday, April 1. There will also be a facilitator to meet individually with Council members on Friday, March 25. The fire department received a grant of $20,000 for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment. There were no Council Comments.

Public Forum: Jim Crawford, President of the Gilpin Historical Society, thanked Council for the workshop they held on March 1 concerning the train ownership transfer. He stated he reached out to Mayor Spellman of Black Hawk and the Grand Z Casino to work on issues raised in the workshop.

Crawford also contacted the Colorado Historic Foundation; their recommendation was to get a State Historic Designation for the train to help with grants and donations. He will present the value of the train as requested by Council when a comprehensive assessment is done. Daniel Miera added the Council was scheduled to meet with the Colorado Historic Society on March 16 to discuss the train.

A woman identified as Echo introduced herself to the Council and stated she likes the motto created by Alderman Story about Central City, “Where History Lives.” Echo is a realtor and is willing to offer her expertise to fill the vacant buildings in Central City. She has many ideas and believes the City can gain 30% more revenue if the buildings are filled with businesses.

The Council voted to move into an Executive Session at 6:20 p.m.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on April 5, 2022, at City Hall, 141 Nevada Street or online. Information can be found on the City web site centralcity.colorado. gov/meetings.
