Celebrating Nederland’s 149th Independence Day

The Town of Nederland’s Parks Department, along with help from Public Works and members of the Nederland Fire Department (NFD), organized the town’s 4th of July Parade and Potluck. The Barker Dam Brass Band, who have provided musical accompaniment to Nederland’s 4th of July festivities for 32 years, began the parade with a rendition of The National Anthem.

Tons of Peak to Peak residents and out of towners gathered on 1st Street and Snyder Street, claiming their spots along the parade route to cheer, wave their flags, and catch pieces of candy being tossed to them from those in the parade.

Emcee Steve Cepek announced the various local community leaders, members of Town staff, the NFD, neighboring firefighters and first responders like the Timberline Fire Protection District and Sugarloaf Fire Department, the US Forest Service with Smokey the Bear, local business owners and nonprofit organizations, and Nederland’s youth alongside our veterans who marched in the summer sun.

Rain clouds loomed and threatened, but the community carried on through the downpour and brought their potluck dishes to the party at Chipeta Park, where members of the Public Works staff grilled up hot dogs and games and crafts were set up for anyone to enjoy.
