With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Carol Filer, who died at home on August 26, 2025, following a brief and brutal, but courageous battle with bi-lateral Glioblastoma. A wonderful demonstration of her incredible spirit is that every day during her last couple months, when asked how she was doing, you would get a resounding “Pretty great!”

Carol was born on August 24, 1958, and lived every day with boldness, curiosity, and passion. She went on her first date with the love of her life, Steve Filer, when they were just 14 - watching 4th of July fireworks together - and their relationship grew into a beautiful marriage filled with love, laughter, and a shared sense of adventure.

Carol was never one to sit quietly in the background. She was loud, opinionated, fiercely intelligent, and deeply loyal. Whether she was challenging your thinking, diving into a complicated book, or arguing her point with fire and humor, she did it all with heart - while serving up fabulous home cooked food. She brought energy and presence into every room — you always knew when Carol was there.

She was a devoted mother to her four daughters: Alyss, Elaine, Rose, and Lila. Carol homeschooled her girls, teaching them to be strong, independent, and unafraid to speak their minds — values she lived by every day. Her family was her foundation, and she was theirs — a constant source of love, strength, and perspective.

A lover of nature and always one for adventure, Carol found peace climbing mountains, skiing, snowshoeing, camping - generally finding joy in pushing herself outdoors. Later in life, she even took up Nordic skiing — embracing the challenge with her usual enthusiasm and determination. She was at home among woods, mountains, and ocean, always seeking new ways to stretch her body and mind.

Carol was also a voracious reader and a deep thinker, endlessly curious and never satisfied with surface-level answers. She devoured books on complex topics, welcomed lively debates, and carried a lifelong passion for learning that shaped the way she saw the world — and the way others saw her.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; her daughters, Alyss, Elaine, Rose, and Lila; her siblings, Alta, Todd, and Arliss; her father, Bill; and a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss her laughter, her honesty, and her enormous heart.

Carol lived with intensity, loved without hesitation, and never backed down from what she believed in. She leaves behind a family forever shaped by her fierce spirit, sharp mind, and unwavering love.
