COAL CREEK CANYON — During the recent government shutdown, many people felt a sense of uncertainty and helplessness, as access to some resources was halted. Thankfully, our community excels when it comes to our helping one another.
Canyon Cares is a nonprofit organization operated by a group of volunteers who assist locals with basic needs such as housing, food, and medical expenses. Canyon Cares strives to provide short-term assistance to individuals who struggle to cover their living expenses as a result of unexpected hardships.
“The organization is truly about neighbors helping neighbors,” said Board Member Lindy Lewis. “Roughly half of Canyon Cares’ annual revenue comes from donations from individuals throughout our mountain community.”
For many, financial struggles could potentially lead to homelessness. Canyon Cares works hard to prevent that. Volunteers with Canyon Cares ensure that they take a nonjudgmental approach when reviewing requests for assistance.
The organization was not directly impacted by the government shutdown. However, donations during these times are always appreciated to help assist with holiday meals, as Canyon Cares distributes King Soopers gift cards to clients in need.
Thanks to Canyon Cares, our local communities are reminded of the importance of support. The holidays are a time to be grateful, to be giving, and to appreciate the network of people who are willing to lend a hand during difficult times.
If you would like to contribute, you can donate to Canyon Cares via Venmo, credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay by navigating to the “Donate” section on their website, canyoncares.org.
